have great information on the Registry.
Sorting the
Windows 98 Start Menu
MS FAQ (Start Menu and Favorites Menu Not Listed in Alphabetical
Order)
One of the most common and bothersome problem's with Win98 is it's inability to sort the
START Menu correctly. Here is an MS FAQ on how to fix that:
SYMPTOMS
When you view the Start menu and Favorites menu, the shortcuts and folders may
not be in alphabetical order and new shortcuts that you create may be added to the bottom
of the menu.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur when you rearrange the shortcuts and folders on the Start
menu or Favorites menu manually, or when you install a new program.
The Start Menu
To restore the default sort order:
Use Registry Editor, delete the binary value "Order" from the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Explorer\MenuOrder\Start
Menu\Menu
Possible PCI Stability
The PCI Bus steering table is read in order
from top to bottom. Most of the options tell your computer to get the table from hardware
BIOS functions, but it seems the most reliable connection is to the MS
Specification table. Unchecking all options except the MS Sepcification table may
make your system less prone to conflicts and more stable. If you want to give it a try
here's how:
Open Control Panel\System\Device Manager. Under System Devices, double-click the PCI Bus.
Select the IRQ Steering tab and uncheck everything except for the box that says "Get
IRQ table using MS Specification table." This will force the OS to use just the MS
steering table and not the others.
